The Lightshop

With over thirty years of experience, Jason Daniel saw an opportunity to open up Eastbourne’s first independent premier lighting shop in the centre of Eastbourne.

The Lightshop, based at South Street in Eastbourne, began as an idea that owner Jason Daniel had when he worked at his father’s lighting business.

Jason felt that Eastbourne was the perfect place to start his enterprise as he thought that “there wasn’t a dedicated lighting shop that could offer not only a huge range of lighting and light bulbs but a full lighting service in the centre of town.’

He knew that to stand out he had to do something different and contacted the Start Up Loans team and Locate East Sussex. To truly make the shop distinctive he needed three things: the right location, the correct electrical fit-out and new signage and marketing. Setting up in South Street, this collaboration, as well as his own funding, allowed him to refurbish the disused retail space in the heart of Little Chelsea and created two new jobs.

The team were great; they helped with the initial costs of fitting out the premises and gave me some invaluable advice that I can take forward as the shop start to grow.
— Jason Daniel, owner of The Lightshop
I’ve had plenty of experience over the years, working in and with high-end establishments such as Claridges, Fortnum & Mason, Café Royale, and Lanesborough to name a few, as well as Eastbourne’s own Grand Hotel. Now, I can put that knowledge into running my own lighting business. I’m excited for what the future holds.

The shop stocks a wide range of products from tiffany lamps to crystal chandeliers, and his services include repair, renovations, sourcing spare parts and replacement services. He also has experience in crystal maintenance and in-house cleaning service of customers’ own lighting.
