Fresh outlook: LMJ Painting and Decorating secures a Start Up Loan to grow

Jaider Mindiola, Owner of LMJ Painting and Decorating, Hastings, tells us how Let’s Do Business Finance supported him to access a Start Up Loan, priming his business to take the next step for growth.

Jaider Mindiola, originally from Columbia moved to the UK in 2016 and began working in the building trade and then within healthcare. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, he returned to the building trade, discovering comfort and a passion for painting and decorating.

In 2021 he took the decision to start up a business of his own, moulding his skills and reputation into a business plan set to provide him with entrepreneurial success. In April 2021 LMJ Painting and Decorating was incorporated and he began to take on residential projects around the Hastings Area.

LMJ Painting and Decorating offers exceptional service, bringing your rooms to life with fresh colour schemes, modern styling and the latest trend wooden panelling.

I love fixing and creating a whole new space for people. Sometimes small changes can make a huge difference to a room. Paneling has become very popular, and I enjoy creating unique patterns that my clients love
— Jaider Mindiola, Owner of LMJ Painting and Decorating

Starting off completing jobs local to his home, Jaider’s excellent reputation for being honest and very reliable soon led to him getting referred by clients for other work that would lead him further afield. To be able to accommodate these requests he was need of a cash injection for the business to purchase a van to house his tools and help him extend his services to a wider area.

Jaider through a stroke of luck met Rupert Kirby, a business advisor for Let’s Do Business Group who introduced him to the Start Up Loans Scheme. The Start-up Loan Scheme from British Business Bank, and delivered in the South East by Let’s Do Business Finance, offers businesses who have been trading under 3 years loans of up to £25,000 on a fixed rate and for up to a 6 year term.

The loans which can be used for capital expenditure such as equipment, stock or marketing are ideal for those looking for some support with taking their business forward. Jaider borrowed £5,000 using the scheme which helped him to purchase his work van, giving him the opportunity to take on work all across the country.

Rupert was so helpful to me. He guided me through the entire process and helped me get my business plan down on paper, with projections and marketing plans. The way Rupert has supported me has been above and beyond. I couldn’t have done it without him. He was a key element to the process, with his patience, time and commitment!

Since getting it’s Start Up Loan, LMJ Painting and Decorating has continued to roll forwards, getting all of its work through referrals and word of mouth, which is testament to the excellent work Jaider does. He is also making strong contacts through work he has done with a large construction company and Pro-Touch Beauty salon in Eastbourne, creating a solid pipeline of work for the future. His long term goal is to take his skills and go one step further, getting into property development, purchasing old properties and giving them a new lease of life.

Short term, his business is ready for the next step, and so he is looking to utlise the ‘second loan’ element of his Start Up Loan, which allows recipients to take out a second loan to increase their loan amount up to the maximum £25,000 providing they have been trading for under 5 years. This loan increase would help him to upgrade his vehicle and purchase some new equipment to help his productivity further.

We wish Jaider all the best for the future, and can’t wait to continue seeing his great work on his Instagram account - @lmjpaintdecor
