Building Confidence Through Care

Angelique, founder of Aesthetique by Equaligne, a rejuvenation business in Buckinghamshire that focuses on helping clients feel confident in their skin, explains how with support from Let's Do Business Finance via the Start Up Loans programme, she has been able to begin building a thoughtful, patient-centred aesthetics practice.

Angelique didn’t set out to become a business owner. For most of her adult life, she was a highly trained nurse, used to the pace and pressure of hospital life. Her career took her into some of the UK’s most demanding clinical environments, including King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Great Ormond Street Hospital, where she worked across emergency care, surgery, and specialist services for women and children.

But even within that world, something else had always been there in the background.

She’d long been interested in aesthetics—not in a superficial way, but in the science behind it. The idea that skin could be supported, that volume could be restored, and that confidence could be rebuilt over time. Growing up in the Philippines, she had been exposed early to treatments focused on skin health and maintenance, which sparked a curiosity that stayed with her. It wasn’t just about how things looked, it was about understanding why they worked.

Looking after people is really natural to me. It’s about doing the right thing, making sure they understand their choices, and advocating for them.

A conversation with her partner became the moment things shifted. He said something simple: why don’t you create something for yourself? And for Angelique, it sparked the idea that her clinical background wasn’t something to step away from, but something she could build on.

Determined to do things properly, she trained with a surgeon-led academy learning anti-wrinkle techniques, dermal fillers, skin boosters, and regenerative treatments like polynucleotides and radiofrequency.

This wasn’t about changing faces. It was about helping people feel good in their own skin.

Aesthetique by Equaligne was born, a clinic that takes a holistic approach, focusing not just on individual treatments, but on overall skin health and balance.

She named it Equaligne as a reflection of herself: a play on her name, but also a philosophy. A sense that aesthetics should be for everyone, not just a select few. Balanced. Personal. Grounded in care.

Her services include anti-wrinkle treatments, fillers, skin boosters, and regenerative treatments designed to restore confidence as well as appearance, all following Angeliques clinical mindset: understand fully, do safely, and treat the whole person, not just the symptom.

Accessing the Right Support for her Buckinghamshire Business

Like many people starting out, Angelique wasn’t sure what funding options were available to her. She knew she wanted to build the business properly—but without taking on more than she could manage.

After doing her research, she came across the Start Up Loans programme through the British Business Bank.

I picked up the phone and spoke to someone who explained everything. “I was surprised how much information he gave me. It felt like someone was really taking the time to talk me through it. That personal touch made a huge difference.

She was then introduced to Let’s Do Business Finance and worked closely with her Business Manager, Rachel.

Rachel was great. She really tried to understand my situation and whether the loan was right for me. It’s good to have a human behind the process—especially when you’re talking about finances.

Angelique chose a manageable loan amount to support sustainable growth. The funding helped her:

  • Purchase essential equipment and a dedicated business computer

  • Set up secure systems for handling client information

  • Maintain cash flow for high-quality products and treatments

The loan was structured as a tranche loan, which allows her to access funding in stages—helping her stay in control while scaling gradually, something that was very important for Angelique.

Even now, in the early stages of her business, Angelique talks about the future carefully. She wants to grow, but not at the expense of burnout or quality. In the next few years, she hopes to deepen her expertise, build a strong and steady client base, and eventually move into a dedicated clinic space with a small team.

But she is not rushing it.

Because if there’s one thing her journey has already shown her, it’s that meaningful work takes time.

And when asked what she would say to someone thinking about starting a business of their own, she said:

Just go for it. The first step is always the hardest. If you overthink it, you never start.

Angeliques story is not one of dramatic reinvention, in many ways its much more powerful: a nurse who never stopped caring for people, who simply found a different way to do it.

But despite that shift what remains constant is her aim.

To help people feel good in themselves again.
